The Ohio Dept. of Taxation is reminding taxpayers that April fiscal year-end municipal net profit tax (MNPT) returns are due Aug. 16, 2021. Taxpayers who have opted in for centralized filing with the department are required to file and pay the MNPT electronically via the Ohio Business Gateway at gateway.ohio.gov or through Modernized e-File. The department emphasizes that taxpayers shouldn’t submit tax returns to the municipality.

The Ohio Dept. of Taxation is warning taxpayers about suspicious emails that may appear to be from someone claiming to represent the department. It’s asking taxpayers to report any such email scams or phishing attempts. The department emphasizes that it doesn’t send emails with links directing taxpayers to download and install software; request detailed personal information; or ask taxpayers to respond by providing user IDs, passwords or financial information. If such a suspicious email is received, taxpayers are told not to reply, not to open attachments and not to click on any links. Instead, the email should be forwarded to fraud@tax.state.oh.us for investigation and then deleted.
